Paying
for your policy
Whether you want to finalise your travel insurance policy set-up online or over
the phone you will want your payment to be secure and straightforward. There are
sometimes reasons why you cannot finalise payment online. For instance, not all
brokers can provide a quote without searching the market place and so payment
will not be possible immediately. By waiting a day or two you may end up with
a cheaper and better policy.
In many instances, where the cover you want is straightforward, you will be
able to finalise payment online there and then.
If you are paying with a credit or debit card you should check that you are
using a secure site. Most sites that take payment will make you aware of their
level of security.
Making Claims and knowing your excess
Claiming on any insurance policy can be a stressful experience for a number of
reasons that can be avoided.
Firstly you should make sure that you know what
you are covered for so that there should be no nasty surprises.
Secondly, you should know how to make a claim,
which your travel insurance policy will explain. If you need to know what to do
whilst you are abroad because you cannot wait until you get home, make sure you
have your 24 hour hotline with you.
Thirdly, if you are unsure whether you can spend
and then claim back you should check first as some insurers will only replace
like for like on certain items, rather than reimburse your receipts.
Fourthly, check your excess. Knowing this will
help you decide whether you want to cut your losses if you loose something small.
For example, if you have a £50 watch stolen and you buy another one expecting
to be reimbursed, you may discover that your excess is £50. If you do make
claims without thinking about such issues it may well push up your premium next
time you need a policy.
