There is often confusion as to what benefits you get from the E111 and where
you can use it. Below are some of the main questions and answers:
Who's eligible?
For those looking at their travel insurance requirements the main requirements
are that you are a UK residents who is a UK national or you are a national of
an EEA (European Economic Area) country. If you are neither you may still be eligible
- click
here.
Where do you get one?
From a main Post Office which will stamp it for you when you have completed your
details.
Who the form covers?
You, your spouse and children up to 16 years or 19 years if they are in full time
education. Also it covers your partner even if you are unmarried if you have children
together.
What if my form is old or lost?
Go and get a new one - they are free. Do not amend an existing form.
Will I get charged for cover?
Although the form gives reciprocal rights this does not mean that there are no
treatment charges. Different countries charge for different things. Check on the
rules of the country you are about to visit to know for sure and get your travel
insurance to cover you accordingly. To check the country specific rules click
here. (the information is from a Government source but changes can and do
occur).
How do I claim back costs?
You can claim direct to the authority in the country you visited or you can wait
and go through the UK authorities. The address for claiming on your return to
the UK is below. Because your refund does not come from the NHS pot you may have
a long wait for payment from the country you visited.
