| Cancellations come in different
forms and the consequences are diverse. Before reading on and getting an idea
of some of these considerations take on board the following:
"Get your Travel Insurance as soon as you can after you
have booked your holiday"
Through the media we have all been aware of cancellation of flights or strikes
that have clogged up airports with holidaymakers. Usually it will be the responsibility
of the airline to find alternative flights or means of travel and so you are unlikely
to find insurance for this instance. This is certainly worth considering if you
are planning on booking a flight based purely on cost - it is more sensible to
weigh up other aspects such as whether you consider an airline reputable. You
would not book with an airline that you know to be financially instable. If an
airline goes bust it may not get you to your destination and you can loose everything.
There are many cancellation circumstances that you can obtain cover for. Examples
would include illness or death of one of the travelling party, illness or death
of someone you intended to stay with, a calling for one of the travelling party
to undertake jury service and redundancy of you or your partner. There may be
other instances which are important to you and you should check with the policy
/ insurer.
If you are unfortunate enough to have to cancel you can usually get reimbursement
for any costs you have paid or are legally bound to pay for your travel and accommodation
and also kennel or cattery fees. Again, check with your insurer.
If you leave your travel insurance until the last minute you
may end up with unnecessary expenses.
