| If you are a frequent traveller
and a UK resident you can avoid the cost and hassle of arranging a policy for
each and every separate trip by opting for cover that will last for a 12-month
period.
You should check with your policy to see the limits on the length of each trip.
Typically, annual multi trip travel insurance policies stipulate that each trip
should not exceed 90 days, but this figure does vary.
If you are likely to be undertaking travel or holidays that involve high risk
activities, such as winter sports or mountaineering, you need to check how many
days of cover you receive for such activities within your annual trip / multi
trip policy - typically you will be covered for around 17 days for skiing during
a 12 month period of travel insurance cover.
A word on Extended Cover - If you are planning
on staying for more than 3 or 4 months (or beyond the maximum stated time for
each individual trip) you should ask about policies that cater for such things
rather than just paying by the day.
Also, if your return is delayed past the expiry date of your policy for reason
such as ill health or flight delay, many insurers will extend cover for a stated
period - around 2 weeks for transport delay and 1 month for health reasons.
