| One of the most important
things to take with you on your trip will be a 24-hour contact number for your
insurance company. Do not assume that you can always deal with everything on your
return because some insurers will stipulate that you contact them as soon as possible
if an insured event occurs. Typically, but depending on the policy, within 48
hours if you are admitted to hospital, for example.
Also, do not assume that all insurers have a number so you need to decide if
this is an important factor in your policy decision - probably it should be.
By making sure that you have the number and contacting them you can avoid possible
cost implications - you may spend your money to resolve a problem only to find
out later that your insurer stipulates that you call them to decide on actions
to be taken.
This all sets out a rather negative scenario, which should be considered of
course, but more importantly you should see the 24 hour number as security that
could get you out of a tight spot. Many insurers are geared up to help you in
the event of you needing their assistance for things like medical care and repatriation
so you should not have to struggle in a country you are not familiar with.
As a top tip, as well as keeping the number on your person you could email
it to yourself so that you can access it from a computer (assuming your destination
is online).
Finally, make sure that you are able to quote your policy details as the number
alone may prove to be inadequate for security reasons.
